ATTENDANCE POLICY

"90% of Success is Showing Up"

As an athlete, you take on the commitment to yourself, your own success and progress, and to the team to be here every day and give all you have. There will be hard days, and there will be fun days.  We as a team will meet all highs and lows together! #Sachems

1)  Student Athletes should take the responsibility to communicate with the head coach, Coach Kinney, when they are unable to attend a practice or meet. Email is the preferred method to help keep record of notifications. Even if you stop by the Foreign Language office or talk to Coach May-Beaton, it is imperative to drop an email to skinney@middleboro.k12.ma.us for our records. Email should include the student-athlete's name, date of missed practice/meet and reason.

2)  Student Athletes are expected to make a commitment to the program to attend 6 days a week for the majority of the season.

3) There are excused reasons for missing a practice, including:

  • family emergency

  • absence from school due to illness

  • religious obligations

  • additional time needed after school for extra help with a teacher or make up test

If running late to practice, check the schedule and join the workout or run as it has started, providing it is safe to do so. DO NOT run alone in the town to attempt to “catch up.” If you cannot meet us before we go off campus, do the miles on campus safely.

We are aware of multi-committed athletes. Please compare all rehearsal, competition, and practice schedules and alert Coach Kinney and your other advisors/coaches with any conflicts at the start of the season.

Unexcused absences include:

  • out-of-school activities, clubs, private classes or lessons.

  • detention or suspensions (remember, you are a student athlete and you represent the school and the team at all times. The values we uphold on the field are the same in the classroom.)

4) If you are unable to attend practice the day before a meet, you will not be able to participate in the next days meet, unless you have spoken to the coach in advance and have been give permission. If you are sick the day before a meet, you will not have recovered enough by the next day in order to compete. You will be allowed to join the team for support, but we cannot race you, as we do not want to worsen your condition.

5) When scheduling appointments, please plan in advance to avoid after-school competition schedule. When scheduling vacations and trips with families, please plan in advance to have the student athlete available for the entire schedule of meets during the season.

6) Having an unexcused absence or failing to communicate missing practice will result in a single warning. Additional missed practices will result in removal from the team.

7)  Any student-athlete who is injured must be with the trainer for rehabilitation purposes, provided the trainers can supply the necessary services. Failure to do so will result in a warning. Athletes should continue to communicate with the coach on missed practices as they rehab and recover.

8) If you know you will miss a competition meet in advance, please communicate that to the coach in advance in order to help with setting lineups.

“When you are not practicing, remember, someone, somewhere is practicing and when you meet them, they will win.”

These conditions may not allow you to participate in the cross country program.

Please consider these conditions before starting the season, understanding that this is a major time commitment on your part.

*** Please see Coach Kinney with any conflicts, and we will work with the athlete to achieve our goals and meet success**
